As of December 2017, T.J. & C.M. Powell Ltd have been contract-managing a new-build 4-Shed, 180,000-bird broiler unit rearing chickens for Avara Foods – a Cargill Meats Europe / Faccenda Joint Venture. The birds arrive as day-old chicks and are provided with all required space, food water and natural light. A proportion of the flock are processed at Day 30-31 for Nando’s, with the balance being sold to Tesco at Day 37-39.
The broiler unit is fully integrated into our existing farming business, with the litter used as a ‘base fertiliser’ under the combinable crops, providing P, K and N in the autumn.
